The Organization

For more than 100 years, the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industry (“the Chamber” or “NCCI”) has served as Nebraska’s largest statewide business association representing the business community before the Legislature.  Based in Nebraska’s state capital city of Lincoln, the Chamber has almost 2,000 members, representing 275,000 individuals in more than 150 Nebraska communities.  Members include businesses of all sizes and from all industry sectors, along with nonprofits, trade associations, local chambers of commerce and individuals all with the goal of creating and maintaining a business-friendly environment by representing private industry interests in the Legislature.

The Chamber serves as the premier advocate for the business community with a mission to advance an economic climate that enables members, their employees and all citizens of Nebraska to prosper and create jobs in the private, taxpaying sector.  Nebraska's legislature is unique among all state legislatures in the nation because it has a single-house system with 49 senators. This unicameral body meets in legislative session the first four to six months of each year.  Within the Nebraska Legislature, the Chamber advocates for:

  • Favorable tax climate;
  • Less burdensome regulation for business;
  • Economic development;
  • Job creation; and
  • Adequate workforce with qualified employees.

In addition, the Chamber is active at the national level, serving as the state of Nebraska’s affiliate to both the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers.  The organization provides a variety of programs and services to its members, including a statewide leadership program, a Political Action Committee, workshops, special events, communications and other member services.  The organization’s 13 Policy Councils are made up of Board members and other active volunteers.  The Councils meet regularly and actively inform the Board and include: Manufacturing; Labor Relations; Innovation & Technology; Economic Development; Healthcare; Taxation; Transportation; Education; Environmental; Agri-business; Small Business; Chamber Executives Advisory; and Political Action.

The Chamber is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, which is comprised of approximately 60 business leaders from across the state.   Board members represent specific geographic regions of Nebraska, along with diverse sectors of commerce, ensuring that every major category of business has a voice in Chamber affairs.  NCCI also has an active Political Action Committee, governed by a 10-member Board and is involved in candidate recruitment, financial support and voter education efforts.

The organization has a staff of 10 and a budget of approximately $1.7MM; reserves of $1+MM.  Its membership includes 75+ Cornerstone members who commit to a higher level of investment.  Revenue is generated from membership dues, meeting and event fees and sponsorships, publications and investment income.  The Chamber has a strong balance sheet and a history of financial stability.
